Driver Safety & Certification

Please read these instructions in their entirety prior to proceeding to the training.

Employees, students, and certified volunteers who drive for Utah Tech University business (in UT Fleet , State Motor Pool or personal vehicles) must complete the Defensive Driver Training and/or the Large Capacity Passenger Van online courses.

First time operators will need to complete the online testing, Three Page New Driver form, LCPV Safety Protocols form (if doing LCPV driving) and provide a copy of your license.

To renew your certification you only need to take the online test.

All certifications on the online program are good for two years.

Steps to Completing the Driver Safety Certification

The Defensive Driving Certification is available on the State of Utah, Risk Management website.

  • The training is accessed through risk.utah.gov
  • First time users will need to create an account (do not use Utah Tech credentials). Security keyword is “utahtech
  • DDT testing is required for the 5-7-9 passenger vehicles and the LCPV is  required for the 12 passenger vehicles. You will need to do both if you plan to operate all sizes. UT Fleet follows Utah Division of Risk Management’s Large Passenger Van Protocols.
  • Watch the video and take the test.
  • Complete the New Driver Certification.
  • After completing the training course(s), please forward all documentation and copy of your license to tamara.gentry@utahtech.edu. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Tamara at extension 7550
